Consists of a summons to the sheriff of Tennessee County of the U.S. Territory South of the River Ohio from the Davidson County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions clerk Andrew Ewing. The summons concerns the case of Howell Tatum and Seth Lewis vs. Valentine Sevier, administrator of the estate of Charles Snyder.

Howell Tatum (1753-1822) was an officer in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. He was also a merchant, engineer, and lawyer, and served as attorney general and superior court judge in Tennessee. In the American Revolution Tatum fought with the First Regiment, North Carolina Continental Line, rising to the rank of major. He was charter member of the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati.
